The EuroCOP Committee elects new representatives.

At its Spring Committee in Krakow the EuroCOP Committee elected two new Executive Committee members: Frank Richter, GdP Germany and Mauricio Moya, Fespol, Spain and new chairpersons and members of its subcommittees.

The Equality Subcommittee

The Gender Subcommittee was created in March 2008 for the purpose of representation of specific gender interests. It was renamed in November 2008 to Equality Subcommittee.

Its predecessor was entitled the Women’s Conference which was established at the EuroCOP Congress in 2003.

Its tasks

To promote the exchange on gender related issues in the police with the goal to identify best practice in this area and to promote equal opportunities at the workplace.

Agenda

The subcommittee follows the Terms of Reference put forward by the EuroCOP Committee which includes:

  • Identifying best practise with regards to family friendly career plans with focus on part time working arrangements and paternity leave in police services
  • Investigating possibility of a conference on this subject
  • Circulating questionnaires on work-life balance
  • Create a network list
Composition

The subcommittee is composed of a Chairperson and five further members which are elected by the EuroCOP Committee for a two year period and a representative of the Executive Committee. The EuroCOP Committee shall aspire to assure a fair regional representation in the composition of the Subcommittee.

Charter on Gender Mainstreaming

A charter on Gender Mainstreaming prepared by the Equality Subcommittee was adopted by the EuroCOP Committee in November 2008. The Charter aims to:

  • Strengthen the role of gender equality in the member organisations
  • Focusing on implementing equality plans
  • Taking gender mainstreming in consideration during collective bargaining
  • Strengthening the role of equality bodies
  • Balancing EuroCOP delegations according to gender
  • Gathering and comparing statistics in this area

Former Women's Conference

The Women’s Conference last meeting before become the Equality Subcommittee in Wiesbaden, January 2008.

The Women’s Conference was established for the purpose of representation of specific women interests. It was established at the EuroCOP Congress in 2003.

This body met at a regular conference once a year on the occasion of a EuroCOP Committee meeting or Congress. Four conferences took place:

  • 2004: Barcelona, November 2004
  • 2005: London, November 2005
  • 2006: Luxembourg, January 2007
  • 2008: Wiesbaden, January 2008

The Chairpersons for the former Women’s Conference were:

  • Elisabeth Uzunuglu, GdP, Germany 2004-2006
